What a typical HR Services Team’s day is like

That gives us all the hint, that we have reached the ONE who has the answers to all our questions. HR services team is the extended arm that takes care of all transactional activities enabling HR managers/HRBPs to focus developing key strategies that benefits the organization at larger. Working in the HR services team is interesting as we deal with a multitude of people every day with different expectations, characters, backgrounds and questions. Each day presents itself with new challenges and a variety of tasks – no day is a boring day for us!

A typical day for an HR services team involves checking queries that need attention, prioritizing tasks based on criticality, following up as and when there is a requirement, and ultimately getting ready to be close to what we call ‘omniscient’. We get opportunities to resolve employees’ queries/concerns as we guide and assist them in completing crucial tasks.

Typically, we categorize queries from simple to complex. But while this is done, we do keep in mind that the simplest query can be the biggest roadblock to an employee. When we provide the appropriate resolution that could probably make someone’s day, it gives us a unique sense of job fulfillment. This can be compared to hitting a home run or winning a world championship. Ultimately, we get a chance to get closer to ground reality and catch up with the ‘pulse’ of the organization.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the potential benefits of HR outsourcing are:

– Improved efficiency

– Access to improved HR tech solutions

– Improved reporting and analytics (including human capital metrics)

– Internal unavailability of access to HR expertise

Resolving queries and delivering accurate results on time are one of the key requirements for an HR services team. Things can get crazy at times but HR services team members are ought to always keep themselves calm and composed. Also, our everyday responsibilities help us build core competencies such as strategic thinking, building business acumen, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Learning and personal growth are directly linked to the daily life of the HR Services Team. While our key responsibility revolves around finding resolutions to employee queries, we also work closely with business leaders, HRBPs, and internal teams contributing towards larger organizational goals.

Furthermore, being a part of the HR services team gives you the vantage point from where you can identify areas of improvement based on frequently raised queries or in some cases, a one-off query that could result in a brain-wave. Through regular huddles, discussions, and suggestions for improvement, we diligently implement changes wherever necessary and strive to achieve customer delight.
